Bayern Munich Won Group E With Two Games To Spare By Seeing Off Rudi Garcia’s Side Thanks To Goals From Franck Ribery And Mario Gotze And Some Brilliant Goalkeeping

It there was one Bayern Munich player not totally satisfied with his side’s 7-1 mauling of Roma two weeks ago, it was Manuel Neuer.

The Germany goalkeeper had twice denied Gervinho in stunning fashion before the Ivorian finally hit the back of the net, denying Neuer a clean sheet.

It mattered little in the grand scheme of things, but world champions tend to set very high standards.

Back in Munich, Neuer was not to be beaten. Franck Ribery and Mario Gotze scored either side of half-time to put Pep Guardiola’s team in control before another moment of genius.

First, Gervinho, a familiar foe, skipped past Philipp Lahm in the box before poking a low shot towards the far corner that the Bayern No.1 blocked with his left leg.

That was an impressive save on its own but what came next defied belief. Radja Nainggolan picked up the loose ball on the edge of the area and thumped a shot towards the half-open goal but Neuer somehow got to his feet, flew to his left and pushed it away.

Nainggolan threw his arms up in the air in disbelief. He is not the first and certainly will not be the last.
