PHOTOS: WOMEN & ELDERLY RESCUED IN GWOZA AS MILITARY CONTINUES SEARCH IN RECAPTURED TOWN

A number of women, the elderly and children who were locked up by fleeing terrorists in Gwoza have been freed by troops as cordon and search along with mopping up operations continue in the town.

The freed hostages some of whom are so weak are being given medical attention while others are also receiving necessary care pending the arrival and activities of aid agencies.

Some of them are also providing useful information for the intelligence in aid of troops operations in the area.

In another development, a building which have been converted to a bomb making factory have been unearthed by troops in the course of ongoing mopping up operations in Gwoza.

The facility which is being used for the manufacture of various calibres of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) is still being carefully evacuated of dangerous materials.

Massive destruction of infrastructure and property including blowing up bridges and burnt houses including Emir’s Palace have also been noticeable.
Troops are also carefully removing land mines placed in various parts of the town.

In Bama also in Borno State, troops on routine patrol in the suburbs of the town this morning recovered a large number of rifles and various arms believed to have been abandoned by terrorists who fled the area when troops were advancing to flush them of the town recently.

Bama was liberated by troops on 16 March 2015 and troops have since been dominating the town with aggressive patrols to defend it against any further terrorists activities.

VIDEO PURPORTEDLY SHOWS INEC OFFICIALS IN AKWA IBOM ENGAGING IN ELECTION MALPRACTICE (SEE VIDEO) -

PT-600x338

A report by Premium Times alleging election malpractice by INEC officials in Akwa Ibom, has got people talking.

According to the report, officials in Polling Units 009, 010 and 011 at Oniong West Ward 1, Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State colluded with PDP supporters in the area to rig the presidential and national assembly elections in favour of the party.

Here are excerpts from the Premium Times report:

The ugly incident happened in the village square – Ikot Eko Ibon village – within the full glare of villagers.
INEC officials were done with voters’ accreditation as early as 1:30PM in the three units, but refused to commence voting until some PDP chieftains arrived around 4pm.

The PDP chieftains, who apparently were working in agreement with the INEC officials in the units, immediately ordered all the voters to move away from the polling centre.

In the midst of the confusion that ensued, gunshot was fired within the polling centre, prompting the voters who were mostly old men and women from the village to run away to safety.

The PDP supporters then had a field day thumb-printing ballot papers, under the supervision of INEC officials.

Security officials were not deployed in the three units. It is unclear if it is deliberate to allow the PDP supporters execute their plans without molestation.

One of the INEC officials in the units told PREMIUM TIMES he and his colleagues were under pressure from their ‘boss’ to assist the PDP win the elections, but didn’t however explain who the boss was.

Here is the video that was published along with the report:

OYEDEPO’S CHURCH, WINNERS CHAPEL BURNT DOWN IN KADUNA OVER PURPORTED SUPPORT FOR JONATHAN

11

A branch of the Living Faith Church, popularly called the Winners Chapel, in Giwa, headquarters of Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has been set ablaze.

The church, founded by Bishop David Oyedepo, was reportedly set ablaze by two unidentified arsonists.

During the incident that happened on March 20, 2015 at about 2:30pm, nothing was saved from the church.

The burning of the church came a few months after the reported endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan by Oyedepo

A terse statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the President of Tarayyar Masihiyawan Nijeria (Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri Christians), General Ishaku Ahmed Dikko (rtd), and the Director of National Issues of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Sunny Oibe, entitled: “Presidential Elections 2015: Signs of what to expect,” called on security agencies to act fast to avoid violence in the area.

According to Dikko and Oibe, the Christians in the North, particularly the Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri speaking Christians, who are indigenous in these states and live within and among their kith and kin, “are in serious jeopardy”.

The statement reads in full: “Giwa is the Headquarters of Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State. On Friday, 20 March, 2015 at about 2:30 pm, two (2) unknown hoodlums on a motorcycle drove into the premises of Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel) and set it ablaze.

“The Church was razed to the ground and nothing was saved from the Church including the building. This action surprised the Christian Community especially the Church members, as there was no tension or any sign of it between Christians and Muslims in the town.

“It is, however, a known fact that the people of the Local Government have not been friendly with the Christian Community even though over 90 percent of them are of the same Huasa-Fulani indigenes.

“The incident actually became more worrisome when no effort was made by a passersby to assist in putting out the fire. In fact, it was a Fulani herdsman that saw the fire and reported to the Police Station. Only one Policeman and a Christian volunteer that ran to the scene and attempted to put out the fire but of course could not achieve anything.

“This situation and the circumstances surrounding the incidence are a cause of serious concern. If this can happen more than a week to the Presidential Elections, what shall we expect during or after the elections?

Is this a sign of what to expect or a dress rehearsal of a repeat of 2011 Post – Election Violence? This is a wakeup call to the Federal, State and Local Government Authorities, especially the Security Agencies.

The National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, chieftain in Oshodi, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, Musiliu Akinsanya a.k.a. MC Oluomo, has voiced out about the unexpected conflict which occurred at the axis earlier today 26 March 2015.

According to the official BlackBerry Broadcast Message he sent after the fight which was rebroadcasted by a lot of Yoruba movie stars this morning,

“Good mprning my fellow Lagosians, I find it very imperative and urgent to quickly send this message to update you about the cruel, gansterism, uncivil and very absurd conduct of the PDP Thugs in Oshodi this morning. We woke up to find this desperate hoodlums shooting, looting and vandalising people’s property, led by Essy oluwo and co. I just sincerely want to bring this to the consciousness of the populace that this hoodlum would do anything to bring both my name and that of our great party APC into mud.

I want to state that nobody has monopoly of violence, but my love for my people and that of Oshodi is uppermost in my mind. I have instructed my followers and good people of Oshodi to be calm, since the Nigerian police have come in to calm the situation. I request that Nigerian press should do an independent investigation in Oshodi to find out and confirm the situation as I will not allow my name to be dragged in this as they earlier did. This is not the Lagos of our dream, no matter what, CHANGE is sure. MC Oluomo”.
