IF APC DID NOT WIN, I KNEW I WAS GOING TO BE IN TROUBLE – GOV AMAECHI

 

Governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi says he would have been in trouble and would have been hounded out of the country if APC hadn’t won the presidential election.

Amaechi said this during the public presentation of a book titled “Dynamics of Change: The Amaechi Years” which is the compilation of his achievements a governor. The book was presented in Lagos yesterday May 14th

“I knew I was going to be in trouble. Anything that would cause that change not to take place, I was ready to make that sacrifice.

The federal government sent out a signal that if they won nobody should let me out of Nigeria from any airport. One day Asiwaju got angry with me. He was very angry.

I went to his house with Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and knelt down, saying ‘please let’s not disagree, let’s win first and then we can disagree.

I lost my passport in Ghana and went to the High Commission. They gave me a certificate but the Ambassador was given a query for doing so.

I later applied for a passport and they gave me green, not red. Now they have given it to me two weeks ago.

I told Asiwaju that what is important is to make a history of the first civilian coup in Nigeria when your children and grandchildren read the history with your name as one of the people who helped bring about change in Nigeria.

I said, let us focus on the victory. I remember the day of the convention, there were so many intrigues, there will be convention, there won’t be convention, I said my leader, if we don’t do the convention we are finished, the press will say APC cannot hold a convention, lead us now, there must be convention and election. So, he turned to me and said look for Tunde (Fashola), let us go.”he said

Professor Wole Soyinka who wrote the foreword of the book said

“The political atmosphere today, whatever you call it, change or hope, or cautious or careless hope, I recognise two individuals who led the change.

One of them I call him the architect of that process, he is Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

The arrowhead of the charge that led to the change is the man we are gathered here to honor.

It is basic arithmetic fallacy of governance when 16 is said to be higher than 19, something is fundamentally wrong.

Governor Amaechi stood up and challenged even his own colleagues saying, let us change the orientation of the nation.

Somebody once said to me to tell the young man that he was going to destroy himself that he should slow down. Of course I didn’t deliver the message.”he said

 

ANGRY PASSENGERS SIT ON TARMAC IN ABUJA [SEE PHOTO]

 

Angry passengers who were to fly to Adamawa and Gombe states from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja got so angry and decided to take over the tarmac and sit in protest after their flight was cancelled yesterday night.

Some of the passengers said they were at the airport for their 9am flight but the airline kept delaying the flight until 9pm when they informed them that the flight had been cancelled.

MAN ARRESTED WITH 104 BAGS OF MAR!JUANA IN CROSS RIVER [SEE PHOTO]

 

Edet Okon (pictured above) has been arrested by men of the Cross Rivers state Police command for being in possession of hard drugs contained in well over 104 bags, and 100, 200 litre drums.

According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Hogan Bassey, Mr Edet was arrested with the hard drugs at his home in Ikot-Nkese in the Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State following a tipoff on Wednesday December 10th.

“We acted based on information.

The 104 bags and two drums (100 and 200 litre drums), were stocked in his house when we got there around 5am.

He was arrested immediately and brought to the command headquarters.”

When interrogated, Edet said he knew nothing about the hard drugs and denied ownership of them.

The state PPRO say they will be tranferring the case to the Cross River state command of the NDLEA who will charge and prosecute the suspect.

 

PASTOR AND HIS WIFE IN COURT FOR BEATING CO-TENANT WITH PLANK

 

A pastor and his wife have been arraigned by the Enugu State Police Command before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in the State for attacking a co-tenant.

The pastor identified as David Orji and his wife- Happiness Orji were dragged before the magistrate court for assaulting one Mr Chukwudi Ugwu with a stick.

Both couple however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to the prosecutor, Osita Atama, the matter was lodged at the Uwani Police Station in Enugu on February 26.

Atama affirmed that the suspects attacked Ugwu with a plank, leaving him with severe injuries.

The prosecutor said the offence committed by the couple was punishable under Section 258 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30 Vol ll, Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004.

Atama however urged the court not to grant the accused bail, noting that he refused to make a statement while in the police station.

The defence counsel, Mr Linus Ebere, on his part prayed the court to grant the couple bail as the offence was bailable.

Ebere said “The offence is bailable and considering the condition of the second accused, who is pregnant, and his husband, a pastor, I am very sure they will not jump bail, if granted.‘’

The accused persons were consequently granted bail by the magistrate, Mr Kingsley Eze, in the sum of N50,000 each and one surety who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was however adjourned till March 30.
